13th Harmonica Masters Workshops, October 30th - November 3rd 2019

Steve Baker
I founded the Harmonica Masters Workshops in 2003 in cooperation with the town of Trossingen and the Hohner Musical Instrument company and have been musical director ever since. The event is now organised by Michaela Kitzke for the Hohner Conservatory. The 13th edition of the no. 1 educational event for blues harmonica in Europe opens its doors again at the end of October 2019 on the new campus in the historical heart of Trossingen, the fully renovated site of the former Hohner production facilities. As well as four days of classes with world class instructors, the Harmonica Masters Workshops also offer a full evening program of instructors concerts and open sessions. All classes and performances take place on site within easy walking distance of each other.

The choice of instructors has always been a mainstay of the concept. Every year, we have brought together some of the world’s leading harmonica educators to teach the Master Workshops at this event.

Joe Filisko Dennis Gruenling
This year we present classes with:

Joe Filisko: Traditional blues harmonica styles
Dennis Gruenling: Blues chromatic
Greg Zlap: The anatomy of harp playing
Steve Baker: Song accompaniment in blues, rock & country music
Marko Jovanovic: The building blocks of advanced harmonica playing
Indiara Sfair: The Brazilian Youtube harmonica star
Riedel Diegel: Blues basics
Eric Noden: Acoustic blues guitar styles

Classes take place in the Trossinger Musikschule, concerts and sessions in the unique atmosphere of the Kulturfabrik Kesselhaus, the former factory power station and now a listed building.

It isn’t just the world class team of instructors, or the concerts and sessions, which make the Harmonica Masters Workshops such an unforgettable event. It’s the combination with that remarkable cameraderie which makes the international harmonica community so special, and four days of total immersion in one of the pivotal locations in the history of our instrument, which ensure a unique experience that continues to attract new students every year and brings back many people again and again for their annual pilgrimage to the Mecca of the harmonica!

  1. Harmonica Masters Workshops, 30. Oktober – 03. November 2019
