Can you help me with info about my Hohner

First of all, sorry for my english, I’m french…
I recently bought an hohner guitar at a flea market. On the label it says “M Hohner” “Tango concierto” “Industria argentia”.
Is there anyone who has informations about this guitar ? Is it really made in Argentina ? When was it made ?

Thank you !
Winston

Hi Winston,
that’s an interesting looking instrument, I don’t recall seeing one before. It appears to be pretty old too. Could you let us know the model and serial number? These are essential to trace it in any records Hohner may still have.
Cheers
Steve

Hello, thanks for responding to my message !
I couldn’t find any serial number or model name, even in the box…
Nothing on the neck either.

The number is often on the block at the base of the neck inside the body. Otherwise I don’t know how to help you further, sorry.

Having been a Hohner dealer for around 40 years, I’ve come across all sorts of odd instruments that were made for Hohner’s autonomous distribution agents in various countries that (though they may have used the Hohner name, or a variation on it) probably never had anything at all to do with Hohner Germany.

So I strongly suspect that this “Tango guitar” was a product of Hohner’s Argentinian agents in years gone by, before “Head Office” in Germany ever went into the guitar business.

This one on YouTube is clearly related, using the same logo on a much simpler soundhole label: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iFonZku3D4

Thanks Stephen, you may be right. Hohner in Germany has been marketing guitars for a very long time, at least since the 1970s, but they were usually manufactured elsewhere and sold under the company name. It’s quite possible that the Argentinian distributor commissioned guitars for the local market.
