Check my Hohner THE Prinz guitar details please

Hi folks,

I recently got my hands on a really nice The Prinz guitar, which has the altered pointy headstock, and THE Prinz, rather than TE Prinz decal.

I’ve been told this is a 1991 model, can someone confirm this with my serial number… C103007.

I also believe these were made in Korea. Any other info would be appreciated, as there is a lot of conflicting posts about this late 80s/ early 90s period.

Also, any hardware info also appreciated… the tuners are OK, but could do with an upgrade, so if you know of a compatible set that would slot in, that would be great. The other thing is the bridge plate is narrower than most available now, and can’t seem to find anything of similar dimensions. The saddles are 10mm wide rather than the standard 10.5 nowadays, but I see you can get 10mm Harley Benton ones that should be OK.

So any info at all would be great… thanks!

Rgds,

Howard

Hi Howard

I’ve asked Hohner Service for any info they may have and will get back to you.

Here some relevant info from a previous post:

The HOHNER Professional “The Prinz” was first introduced in 1985 and remained in the catalogue until 1994. At first they were built in Korea and later in Indonesia. The original form of the headstock led to legal problems with Fender, and it was changed. The resulting model was renamed TE Prinz.

Thanks Steve, that is the most I get when researching my guitar too. I think my model, with the new pointy headstock, and decal THE Prinz and not TE Prinz, must have been a transition model, but as yet have not been able to get any confirmation or further details on spec.

Thanks Steve… much appreciated. :+1:t2:

The model was always TE-Prinz (because it was in the TE line of guitars) but the headstock said THE Prinz. I think I’ve seen transitional ones like the one under discussion here before, and there also some oddities with different headstock logos including one owned by Wendy Melvoin formerly of The Revolution and other Prince projects.

Unfortunately none of the hardware is available from Hohner any more. Your guitar was indeed built in 1991, here the available specs.

body: Californian solid maple with flamed maple top and back; bolt on one-piece Canadian rock maple neck; 21 nickel silver frets; colour: natural; 2 HP single coil GS-1; 3-way switch; vol/tone; chrome hardware; graphite nut; standard ST-bridge; deluxe machine heads; USA-Wings strings

Cheers
Steve
