Chromonica 270 - "sticky mouthpiece"

Hi all! I´m new to this forum.

Here´s my question:
I have a Chromonica 270 and when playing f.e. scales across 2 Octaves, I find the mouthpiece kind of sticky. My lips get dry and I got stuck.
I don’t have that problem with my diatonics.

Is this maybe because of the nickel-plated mouthpiece and could be solved by switching to chrome-plating or stainless steel? Or is it just my technique?

I also need much more air playing the 270 compared to a diatonic.

Greetings, Thomas

Hi Thomas, welcome to the forum!

It’s possible that the nickel plated mouthpiece of the 270 may be responsible for the sticky feeling you describe. In view of the fact that this doesn’t happen to you with diatonics, it’s unlikely to be a question of your technique. Sounds like a good idea to try a different mouthpiece, the one from the 270 Deluxe is chrome plated and exactly the same size.

Due to its construction, the 270 will generally be less airtight than diatonics. Other 12-hole chromatic models are better in this respect, for example the 270 Deluxe or the Discovery. Personally I find that the most airtight Hohner chrom is the CX-12, this is a great design and gives the player a lot more compression, making it easier to bend notes and add expression.

Hope that helps,

cheers
Steve
