Dating and Note Chart my Unsere Lieblinge

Hi I have inherited my grandfathers Unsere Lieblinge and tried to find information on a note chart for it. What I did find was now available is a 48 hole and a 36 hole Lieblinge but this one is a 40 hole C harmonica. All the holes seem to work so Iam interested in learning to play it. The age of it will interest my family because of their putting together a family tree

Hi Steinkamp,
it’s difficult to date harmonicas, as most models (including the Unsere Lieblinge) don’t have serial numbers and were produced over a long period. A photo of the box would be helpful. This link (from the hohner.de website) takes you to tuning charts, the one you want is bottom right.

Hope that helps
Steve

Ah, now I see you posted a photo. From the state of the box it’s obviously pretty old, and the lower cover shows the 6 pointed star between the hands, so it could have been made at any time up until the 1970s, but no later. Some claim that the star indicates a pre-WW2 instrument, but this is disputed. My production list says that the version with the double picture on the box was first produced in 1923.
