Identifying a possible mistake on my Hohner EBDG

Hi,

I have an older Hohner EBAE Guitar, however it does not have a pickup inside it.

It is Ebony, but not Acoustic Electric.

Instead I believe it is actually an Ebony Dreadnaught Guitar, with a misprint/wrong marker.

Is there a way for me to figure out when/where it was produced, and whether or not my claim/suspicion is correct?

Thanks in advance for your help and assistance.

Regards,

Casper

There were four ebony EB series guitars - two classical, two steel string. Yours is an EBDG, the steel string dreadnaught. They’re only in the 2005 and 2006 catalogues.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for your fast reply and for confirming my suspicions.

The Guitar indeed has the wrong model embedded inside it.

Does this make it a collectors item for being a production error, or was this a common occurrence among the guitars?

Casper

I don’t think it was a common occurrence but I don’t think it makes it particularly collectable or valuable either. There are some mislabellings from the Japanese production era that are interesting because they tell us something about how or where the guitars were made. But in this case, somebody just picked up the wrong stamp or picked a brace from the wrong bin.

Thanks. What is this guitar worth today? It has been adjusted by a professional Luther and is well taken care of.

They were $500/€500 guitars when new. I’d guess they’re worth $300/€300 now.

Thanks for your insights Phil!
