Information on harmonica

Hi all I am new here. I have recently come into possession of some hohner harmonicas and they look pretty old. I would like to know more about them if any one can help? One is a bandmaster fancy, one is a hohner super chromatic one is the hohner band and the mini one with 4 holes is a hohner too.

Hi Tina

Harmonicas are difficult to date accurately as they have no serial numbers. Judging by the boxes, these are pretty old though. The hinged case for the Super Chromonica could be pre-WW2, which may be an indication of the age of the rest. The blue, white and red ribbon is in the colours of the French national flag, so this could be an edition made for the French market. The painted upper cover of the Bandmaster is intriguing too. The Unsere Lieblinge model was first issued with the double picture on the box in 1923. This has been a popular instrument ever since and is still made today.

You could try sending photos to the German Harmonica and Accordion Museum. They may be able to tell you more, the Director is Salvatore Martinelli harmonika-museum@t-online.de.

Hope that helps
Steve
