Joining the community

Dear all,

I have just join the Hohner community and I want to first introduce myself. I began playing the harmonica at 17 (I am now almost 45) after having discovered that the guitar is great but not pocket sized. I was first fond of the blues diatonic and started with a Marine Band MS unfortunately in G.
Years latter, I wanted to move to jazz and bought my first chromatic, a Toots Mellow Tone. Moving to the chromatic was not easy and when I got my first real job, I also chose to take harmonica lessons (with this guy). This lead me to play classical music on the instrument and being mainly focussed on the chromatic even if I still have a serie of Marine Bands and some orchestra harmonicas: a chord and a bass.
I have tried some other brands than Hohner. Whereas there where some quality instruments, only Hohner has both the sound and the customer service to provide spare parts.

Welcome to the my.hohner forum! As you say, although quite a number of manufacturers now build quality harmonicas, there seems to be something about the Hohner brass reeds and plates which the others don’t have. I test new releases on the harmonica market regularly, and have found some good instruments among them, but for me nothing measures up to the Hohner sound. Of course this is a matter of taste. As you say, the Service Dept. does a great job providing not only spare parts, but also helpful advice if needed.
Enjoy your music! Should you have any queries I’ll be happy to answer them if I can,
regards
Steve
