Tremolo harmonica tuning delta

Im curious. I understand the tremolo effect is produced by running two reeds at slightly different pitches. How many cents different are the reeds tuned?

Thanks for the help!

You seem to be a curious fellow

Tremolo is indeed produced by the interference beats which occur when two reeds of slightly different pitch sound together. For Western music the difference is usually only a couple of cents, giving a slight tremolo effect with a fairly slow tempo, whereas in the Far East they prefer a wider, faster tremolo and therefore tune the reeds slightly farther apart. It’s difficult to give exact tuning values, because these change according to the absolute pitch of the reeds in question. The people who do this work all tune by ear, I assume that what they go by is the speed of the tremolo.

I hope this is a help. If you want numbers, I can ask Product Manager Gerhard Müller when he gets back from holiday,

cheers
Steve
