Trying to figure out production year

So I have had a guitar my grandfather owned before he passed for awhile now and wanted to see(as accurately as possible) when it was made, Its an HG-01 Acoustic Contessa Guitar with the five digit serial no. 20487

Please help :folded_hands:

I’ve asked the Service Department and will let you know what they say on Monday. The list I have here doesn’t show a model HG-01, the closest is an HG-10, built between 1978 and 1985.

The Contessa HG-01 was made for Hohner in the early 1970s by Eko in Italy. They quite often say “Made In Italy” on the back of the headstock.

Thanks for the info Phil!

Idk then cause it said HG-OI so I assume that meant HG-01 if im wrong please let me know, and I know its atleast older than my mother who was born in the early 80’s

If that’s what’s on the instrument then HG-01 will presumably be correct. Phil is generally very knowledgeable about old Hohner guitars, so I imagine he’s right about this one. Hohner Service didn’t know of any guitars built in Italy, but we’re talking about stuff that happened over 50 years ago, where the documentation was often patchy, so that’s not really surprising.

Some of them are stamped HG-OI rather than HG-01. I can only assume that somebody set up the stamp wrong or they only had letters so had to improvise.
