I’ve had this bass for some years and didn’t realise it was a Hohner. It has a weird logo which I believe was a Hohner thing for a while in the 90s. It’s sort of similar to a Hohner Professional JJ, but a little different, it has 4-in-line tuners, no active circuitry, rosewood(?) fingerboard, 20 frets and a painted neck. The tuners are different to any I can see on Google searches for Hohner basses. It originally had the jack socket on the face, but I modded that. It has 2 volume and 1 tone control for the 2 J-pickups,
Next to the weird logo it says “HB22” but I can’t find anything by that name. I believe it came out of the Cort factory in 1991 by the serial number 9100120
This is indeed strange, are you sure it’s a Hohner instrument? Are there any other pointers to that? I’ll pass the serial no. on the the Service Dept. and we’ll see what they say. If it is a Hohner guitar you’re presumably right about the date and factory.
Am I sure? Not in the least, that logo is extremely weird, I’ve fruitlessly searched for this many times online, it was only the other day that I tried using AI and it was adamant, it said Hohner used a weird logo in the 90s and this is definitely a Hohner.
The s/no is just about visible at the neck heel, just above the body pocket.
The Hohner Service dept. says they have no records of this model and presume that it isn’t a Hohner. I’ve certainly never seen anything like that logo. AI is not infallible and isn’t always to be trusted
Thanks for you efforts Steve, you’re right about AI, I gave it a hrad time and accused it of fantasising, but it was very certain. Personally, I think the logo says LIGHT and I suspect it was something “backdoor” at the Cort factory. Whatever, it’s a good workhorse.
I don’t think it’s anything to do with Hohner either, other than the model number is in a vaguely Hohner-ish format. Cort made (and make) guitars for a huge number of people, so I don’t think it is “backdoor” either but quite possibly is made by them. I can’t see the shape properly (not sure why your pictures are so zoomed in) but it does look like the kind of thing they would make.
