Hohner Guitar Model and Serial

Acoustic Dreadnaught body
Model: HG310
SN: 7032504
It was given to me 40 +/- years ago and has been stored in a case and is almost mint condition.
Can you tell me anything about it as far as age and Value?

It’s Japanese made, probably in 1977 or 1978. The serial number doesn’t help much, there are several number formats across quite a short period, maybe indicating they were made in different factories. Chances are this was made in the Terada factory, they made a lot of acoustic guitars for Hohner and Morris (a Japanese guitar company that Hohner were associated with back then). All the Japanese made Hohner acoustics are still collected. This one sits at the bottom of the higher end if you see what I mean. A solid $400 guitar, maybe more given the case and apparently good condition.

Thank you for the info. I’m not planning on selling but if I decide to start playing again wanted to know what i should spend getting a good adjustment and set up done.

I know this question was a loooong time ago but the Ebony Lady has just come on my radar so I thought I’d share. It’s essentially a higher spec version of the already high spec HS-860, made in Japan around 1979 and probably at the Terada factory. The Ebony Lady has “made by goto” PAF pickups which were used on various Japanese guitars from 1979 - 1981. The story is the guitars were a short run made for promo purposes. There are some rare Hohner acoustics from the same period also thought to have been made for the same purpose.

Also in our collection of guitars proudly have 12 string JT 60 XII in sky blue.

If you find more info also be interested.

Do you have the serial number?

They posted it on a separate thread, Steve. It’s C216778 which makes it a 1992.

Hello. I’m new here and just bought a Hohner B Bass V. It’s walnut colored with gold hardware, EMG pickups, and some unfortunate neck and knob area damage. But I already fixed the neck. I’m trying to figure out what year it was made but I’ve been unable to find a serial number anywhere on it. There’s nothing on the headstock, nor is there anything in the control cavity. Is there anywhere else to look?

Here are a picture of it.

I’m going to make a brass plate to go under the knobs to hide the damage so we’ll see how that turns out.

Thanks for any help on identifying the year and/or serial number on this.

And here’s the control cavity, since I can only attach one picture at a time.

Hi Cory
According to the list I have, this model was made from 1991 onwards, the available specs are below. I can ask Service where the serial no. is likely to be located, but it’s possible this is a pre-production model without a number. Also, you say it’s walnut coloured, but this isn’t listed in the specs I have:

5-string;
Californian solid maple, through neck;
Indian rosewood fingerboard;
24 nickel silver frets;
863mm scale;
machine heads: die-cast, closed, black;
2 J-style humbucker, designed by EMG;
active tone control on/off;
vol/vol/tone: treble/bass;
1 mini switch, on/off;
red LED;
Cosmo black nickel hardware;
colours: grey metallic satin, natural satin

I would very much appreciate you checking with Hohner Service about my bass. I see that the B Bass (I’m guessing 4-string) was available in Walnut with gold hardware but as you said, there is no reference for the 5-string in that color combination. Here’s a closer picture to show the colors.

When the B Bass V was introduced, it was only available in solid Black and Natural. But the 1995 catalogue also lists it in Walnut (with gold hardware); Transparent Blue and Transparent Black. Same in the 1999 (at a guess) catalogue. The 2003 catalogue has just the colours Steve mentioned, grey metallic and natural.

Thanks for that info. Does the catalog happen to list the string gauges that shipped on the B Bass V? I have a set with a 130 B string and the silk won’t go through the hole in the bridge. I can strip the silk if necessary, or even enlarge the hole in the bridge but I’d like to know what the stock string gauges were.

Sorry, nothing of that kind mentioned. Older price lists have Hohner’s own brand strings but that had stopped long before the B Bass was introduced.
